Asphalt patching is necessary to correct isolated areas of failures in your parking lot. Generally, an area that is alligator cracked will need to be completely cut out and removed. The sub-base is recompacted. Then new asphalt is applied to the proper line and grade and compact thoroughly with a steel drum roller or vibratory tamper.
In some cases, asphalt can be placed on top of the failed area (surface patch) if done when the existing asphalt is irregular, sunken, or there are drainage issues.
Another option is partial depth mill patching.
Your Chamberlain representative can recommend the best method of repair tailored to your parking lot.
For a pavement to perform over a long period of time, it is critical that it be built on a good solid base. Failures indicate poor base conditions. Asphalt patching is necessary to establish the integrity of the base and provide a good foundation for your parking lot.
